Baby/Toddler Wearing – Onya Baby Review & Giveaway

February 6, 2012

As my babywearing days with Bella wind down, partly due to pregnancy and partly to the fact that she’s getting older, I find myself wanting to enjoy the closeness we didn’t get a whole lot of her first year (reflux kills the joy of it). I also find myself gearing up for a new little one to wear and snuggle.

So when Onya Baby contacted me about doing a review/giveaway of one of their adorable carriers that retail at $149,

I jumped at the chance. Not only because you can back and front wear with either type of their carrier (which means Sam can wear Bella longer than I’ll be able to), and it’s one of the lightest carriers I’ve owned (of the 8 I’ve had), but because you can wear your toddler up to 45lbs, and it doubles as a seat.

Yes. A seat. How adorable and convenient is that?

The Onya Baby is available in 2 different styles:

The Cruiser: a softer, cotton carrier perfect for farmer’s markets and everyday wearing.

The outback: a more rugged version, with a water-resistant, rip-stop nylon exterior and air-mesh lining, making it perfect for hot weather or hiking the trails.

The Outback

I went with The Outback as we have mild winters and hot summers here. Both can be worn front or back.

Favorite parts?

I love that they have a front zippered pocket; perfect for easy storage of cash at a Farmer’s Market, a cell phone, a diaper and wipes, and/or a burp cloth. 2 toys rings help you to never have to pick up the toy that kept being chucked across the room. I also love the hood – it’s light and has a pouch that it tucks away in when not in use. And? A key ring.

So basically, in an Onya Baby you can wear your kid and not worry about a high chair, a purse, a diaper bag, toys, where you put your keys, or a hat. Which is a total win for anyone with Mommy Brain. ::raises hand::

One of you is going to win a $149 Onya Baby carrier in your choice of color and style. The entries are simple through Rafflecopter.

Can’t wait? Want one as a gift? Use the code DL1TFO2E4 to get 10% until the 20th of February.  Questions? Email/FB/Tweetme and I’ll get back to you.

I really need a good carrier like this for my little guy it’s too hard on my back too carry him as I get really bad back spasms. This carrier would be perfect I love how you can wear it as a front and back carrier.

We spend a lot of time outdoors (we live and work in a park/campground) so this carrier is at the top of my wish list in the style you chose. I appreciate your insight and thoughts in comparing it to an Ergo. I’m just not able to pop that much money into either one right now.

Can you tell us the differences between this and the Ergo?

I think the major one is weight. My Ergo is heavy on me compared to the Onya – and it’s very bulky – especially in the shoulders. I thought that it was partly to give you comfort longer when wearing an older baby, but I find the Onya provides the same length of wearing time and the same comfort level.

And the fact that the hood has a pocket of it’s own is a selling point. I’m always fiddling with the Ergo hood trying to figure out what to do with it, and this just stuff neatly into a pouch under it.

We had a Baby Bjorn for Anna – we thought we liked it until we borrowed a friend’s Ergo. This looks similar, and so nice that it can be worn forward and backwards – and until 45 lbs! If I don’t win I just might have to buy one!!

How is it on backs? I have a really bad back ( cronic everyday pain of varring degrees)

I find it works well – longer than a sling or Bjorn. I can’t wear as long as some people for the same reason as you (car accident at 12 finished my back off) but I can wear for an extended amount of time. Bella I can back wear for around 1 1/2 hours. Sam can wear her longer. A little one I could probably wear even longer forward facing.

I love that it can be used as a seat! I have a strong-willed 16 month old that’s been boycotting the restaurant high chairs. Maybe he would like this!

I am completely obsessed with this carrier! I was even before this giveaway and tried to talk the mom I work for into buying one. I will get one, somehow, some way, some day… ::swoon:: 😉
