10 Things You Should Know About Me {& a Vlog}

July 24, 2012

This is kind of a “pre” BlogHer list – but in general it works for just about anything. Like – you know. For all of you who are going to run into me in El Paso.

Anyway, if you’re headed to BlogHer this year, here are a few things you should know about me:

  • I’m incredibly shy. Really. I remember both last years BlogHer and Blissdom this year there were points I felt like I might pass out. So here’s the thing: if you catch me staring at you and then I look away – I’m not being rude! Promise! I’m usually just trying to figure out who you are or I know and I’m too nervous to come over and say hi.
  • Clothes shopping is not my thing. I like new clothes, but if they somehow could magically appear in my closet (all the correct size) without me having to endure a shopping trip to get them that would be wonderful. I absolutely hate shopping for new clothes. So I’ll be the one in the not so new clothes that are very comfy and probably very unstylish.
  • I always looked forward to having a family and being so busy that I’d have to stop and get Chinese food takeout, then bring it home and we’d watch and movie and eat it out of those white paper containers. This has never happened. Never. I mean, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve stopped to pick up dinner on the way home. And not to be all snooty about it – it’s just because I feel guilty if I don’t cook like 6 times a week. Lame. <— Also has nothing to do with BlogHer.
  • I have naturally curly hair. Really – and because the humidity here is 4% and in NY it’s 95%, you need to know this. I will be rocking my curls the entire time there. Or #momhair. Either one…
  • I am 5’6″. Because sometimes I get really shocked at how short or tall someone is that I’ve “known” and then meet – and had no idea. Then I feel like I spend the entire time trying to wrap my head around how I didn’t know this about them.
  • I get cranky if I’m hungry. I like food, and my blood sugar gets all kinds of wonky if I skip meals. Last year I went to parties instead of dinners and I ended up eating like – a billion tiny tomato/mozzarella/basil on a stick things to quell the beast inside me.
  • I don’t drink. And it totally does not make me uncomfortable to be around people who are – so please don’t feel like you have to pass up anything if we’re chatting or hanging out. I’m cool with it, I used to, and no judging just because I chose to stop for our personal reasons.
  • If I’ve told you how much I want to meet you – you can bet your sweet bippy that I am going to avoid you like the plague. See #1 and try to understand that I really, really do want to talk to you.
  • I don’t dance. Not because it goes with the not drinking thing (because that’s getting into Duggar territory there) but because I feel incredibly dumb doing so. HOWEVER – when I used to drink I did dance. So there’s that.
  • Please don’t feel like you can’t ask me about anything I’ve told you all on here. If you want to talk about Preston and Julian, if you want to share your story, if you want to know more about something I wrote – please talk and ask. I don’t mind, there isn’t anything I shy away from talking about, and nothing makes me happier than knowing you remembered something about Bella, Sam, or the twins.
  • This is what I look and sound like (sans makeup, sweaty, and with my bangs just rockin’ – also #momhair). We made this for Beth Anne (Heir to Blair) while texting one evening but it was too cute not to share.
  • There we go. I am looking forward to seeing you all, please come talk to me (especially if you see me standing alone with this look: o_O).

    And 8 days people!!!Β

love this post! I wish I felt guilty about not cooking. My kids get excited when I actually make a meal. sad, I know. And I just love it when it’s so hot (the humidity is just a sweet bonus), the beads of sweat pour down my back… something I’ve had to adjust to since living in the south. have a great time at BlogHer!

You know I’m glad you told me you’re 5’6″…for some reason I thought you would be my size (5’2″). Just some weird thing I like to know about people.

    1. Diana

See – I’m glad to know you’re 5’2″. Although in my mind I pictured you petite – so it works!

I love that you are shy. I am so, SO shy and have to work really hard to talk to people at all, much less form meaningful relationships. Maybe that’s why I chose a profession where I have to meet new people every day? Sigh. I hope you have SO much fun @ BlogHer! Wish I could go and meet you as you’ve been a wonderful inspiration to me and have filled many of my prayers. I think we’d like each other. We’d probably just sit and be shy and not talk to one another, haha.

    1. Diana

      July 27, 2012 at 9:46 am

Yes – and the sad part is I actually did that last year, got home, and realized there were people I was sad about not meeting that I’d sat next to for like – an hour. I am hoping so hard I don’t do that this time! I’d love to meet you one day as well, really!!

I feel like I could have written so many of these πŸ™‚ And this kinda makes me want to write something like this up on my blog. We’ll see! Anyway, I’m shy too and don’t drink as well. Well, I have maybe three glasses of wine a year – literally. I’m so excited to meet you! I also hate shopping for new clothes and am pretty much buying nothing new for BlogHer! I, however, have naturally stick straight hair. Oh how I wish I had curly hair! Anyway…like I said I can’t wait to meet – although it looks like we both avoid people we want to meet, so maybe it won’t end up happening? Here’s hoping we both come out of our shyness a little and have a chat!

    1. Diana

      July 27, 2012 at 9:42 am

I LOL’ed SO HARD at the “although it looks like we both avoid people we want to meet, so maybe it won’t end up happening?” Let’s try really hard to stare each other down until one of us caves and comes over to say hi. Deal?

  • Rebecca

    July 24, 2012 at 11:53 am

This makes me SO EXCITED to see and hug you! I love that you put all this out there for everyone who is going to be dying to meet you because being shy can be hard to read for the other person but after they read this post they will know that you are totally adorable and just shy πŸ™‚

Also, I love the video of you and Bella. So cute! The highlight for me was totally the part about the sweat dripping down your chest. LOL I get it down my back and it always grosses me out.

EIGHT DAYS. Whoo lawd, don’t put it in those terms (I still need a train ticket, sssshhhh!). I will find you. And I will hug you. I will also be rocking the curly hair (1. b/c it’s easy and 2. b/c I think no one will recognize me but I’ll be even less reognizable if I straighten it). I’ma dance. All night. Whether I’m sober or tipsy (I will not get drunk, I will not get drunk, I will not). And please don’t tell anyone this, but I cook 7 days a week. Sometimes I’m “cooking” a frozen pizza, but I can literally count on one hand the amount of times we’ve had fast food for dinner (I’ve never specifically stopped for dinner). And we’ve never had food delivered to the house. Weirdoes.

I still need a train ticket as well, heck, I need to find out how to get to NYC from Newark. :/ Let’s be lost together.

You are too CUTE! Bella is of course but you are seriously just like me. But so honest. I’m pretty shy when I meet people and end up just looking so rude because I can’t make eye contact, etc. It sucks. Also, Blogher. I’m really jealous because I totally want to meet you(despite my painfully shy real life) and I want some of that swag!

Maybe next year? I can do 2013.

    I think.

Fun article and adorable video! It’s good to know that there are other people out there who don’t want to talk to people and hate shopping. I ascribe to both categories and people usually respond with either a hint of fear or a wave of rage.

    Have fun and stay cool!

Awwww you guys are SO cute. I can relate to the shy thing, once I ‘know’ you, I am great and fine and obnoxious, but until then, I stammer.
