Glimpses of Our Life

It’s been a busy few weeks here. My parents came last week, and we had the best time. Really – it was so nice to just relax and talk with them. Bella was all in a tizzy over them being here, and my mom and her did a gingerbread Halloween house and made peanut butter bears.

While they were here, Sam was told he’d been promoted to an E-6, Staff Sergeant. This was a BIG deal – he’s only been in the Army for a year and a half. His friend and co worker Sgt. Yonker and I got to pin him. I’ve missed every one of his promotions because he’s been deployed or in school, so I was really glad we all got to be there to see him get this, and an award for being platoon Sgt. a few months ago.

Then at night, we all snuggle in on the couch and talk/watch movies together. Bella has suddenly become a snuggler (we call it “snummel”). Sam’s grandpa is here these next few days with us and we all sit around and talk in the evenings together.

And I keep my hands busy with working on my knitting. I made her beloved Yellow Kitty a blanket and now am working on one for her. I am so slow at knitting but each time I do something it gets a bit faster.

Charlie is 6 months old now, he’s so freakin’ cute and fun. Bella and him are buddies now, puppy training helped so much with his nipping. He’s a real love, wants to be with us all the time. We’ll be taking him home at Christmas with us – that should be interesting.

I’ve been trying to spend more time reading the Bible, and She Reads Truth has been amazing for that. I’m so thankful for the women behind this, and for the change it’s bringing to my life as a mother and wife – heck – as a broken mess of a person.

We’ve been off of the homeschooling “routine” with the cruise, all the family stuff, and then holidays coming up. However, the one thing I’ve been reminded of again and again from books like this is: learning happens everywhere. Even when I’m not controlling it. :)

And then there’s me – this is the new hair from the cruise (I love it so much) and time that I took after a therapy session to stop at the library and just play on my phone and read for a few minutes before heading home. I am so, so thankful for our amazing sitter who allows me to do what I love and what I need.

In the meantime, there is the writing that I’ve done on Babble, Liberating Working Moms, and Military Family this past week. Yes, I know everyone abhors the Babble slideshows but I had so much fun putting these together because the topics were things I loved. On Military Family, I wrote about the things you should look for while renting a home, and on LWM there is a post about how I became a work at home mom with blogging.

Hoping everyone has a lovely {long!} weekend. xoxo

  1. Go girl! When you come back for Christmas you’ll have to let me know if we can meet somewhere and let the chitlins play! :-) love your hair too!

And what are peanut butter bears? They sound like something I need to know how to make.

  2. Cute hair! And congrats on the promotion – how exciting!

Now you’re making me want to make a gingerbread house…

  3. I really haven’t commented that much although I do read your blog a lot. I started reading when you were about the deliver the twins. I have to say that reading the story of your journey, your redemption and how you are walking through this mess is really beautiful. Brokenness, any kind of brokenness id hard yet when we bring it out into the light for others to see and share in it with us it becomes beautiful. Thank you for letting us in on your journey.

  4. I love all your posts :)

  5. Also loving the hair!

I read more often than I comment here, but know that you’re in my thoughts and I appreciate your blog a lot.

Keep up with that Bible reading! I’ve heard of She Reads Truth and have meant to check out the site further than the homepage, tsk tsk. I’d also recommend Good Morning Girls – just finished a Colossians study and will do the Advent one in two weeks.

    Hugs! Have a great weekend!
