Last Day in My Twenties

July 31, 2013

I’ve been 20 something for so long now that I don’t even know what to think about waking up 30 tomorrow.

For me, 30 was that number I’d always referred to as “adult/grownup” when I was in my teens. Sam took Bella and I to dinner last night and that song “Strawberry Wine” played, and when she sings, “I still remember, when 30 was old” I laughed because YES. I do remember thinking that at 16, being horrified someone could think 30 wasn’t old.

It’ll be a bit more of a compliment to have people say, “You look so young to be a mom!” When I was 24, a nanny, and married 5 years there were salespeople that would come to the door of the home where I worked and ask if my parents were home. 24. I’ve never found the “you look so young” thing to be very fun, but maybe I’ll enjoy it more now that I can officially say I’m 30.

It’s odd to think about my mom having a 30 year old daughter. Then I think of Bella being 30 and whew.

Tomorrow will be a regular day. We have an ultrasound in the morning and then a Dr’s appt right after. Sam has to head back to work after that, so we’re taking Friday evening to do dinner and a movie. He wants to see WWZ (which I totally do as well) but for my birthday I really want to see The Heat because I adore Melissa McCarthy. I want to laugh, not cringe and peek through my fingers waiting for someone’s head to be blown to bits.

I am so very excited to have our son born in August. My dad’s birthday is in August as well.

So now I’m rambling. Just thoughts – I tend to reminisce on my birthday more than any other time of year. They really seem to fly by now. And this has been a good year. It has. Hard, but good.

Here’s to my last day as “young” to my 16 year old self. I’d also like to remind that girl to appreciate her non-stretch mark covered cheerleader stomach, stop complaining about how hard math is (you’ll never use most of that anyway so just get through it), and that the boy sitting next to you that has been your friend since you were 12? You’re going to make really cute babies together later on.

Happy {almost} birthday! I loved turning 30-my 20’s were not that great and it was like a fresh start. Here’s to your 30’s being absolutely amazing!!

And WWZ? Completely changed the way I thought about a lot of things. Be sure to catch it in the theater. We saw it in 3D and WHOA! 😉

Happy Birthday! I hope you have a wonderful day. The Heat is really funny. My poor husband was, however, sitting next to my mom when we saw it, so I’m not really sure that he enjoyed it as much as I did.

Happy {early} Birthday! 30 is such a milestone & does sound so adult-ish! Whenever I hear someone is in their 30’s I think they’re so much older than me & then I realize I’m not in college anymore!! My hubby is almost 29 & that is just crazy to me! You look fabulous at thirty!
