Little of This & That

October 4, 2016

We’ve had a few busy weeks around here with new things happening. First of all, Sam went for his TBI evaluation and he does have a TBI. Thankfully, it’s not classified as severe but moderate, and yet still – the first word of that is Traumatic so it’s all a lot. He has really good doctors taking care of him, not much will change with this except he will probably have a shift in his care from strict PTSD/physical issues to also brain injury care.

Sam’s been a veteran for a month now, and I have to say that we’ve been pleasantly surprised by how things have gone. I’ve heard a lot of disappointing stories about the VA, and with good reason. Maybe it’s because we stayed here and things transferred easier and quicker, but his care and the team working with him have been wonderful. He was able to transfer his weekly counseling to the center we’ve gone to for years, although he still sees the VA psychiatrist.

I accepted a new job with the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes organization. I’d actually never heard of them before, but I had a reader (I feel weird typing that as now I consider her a friend, but I didn’t know her prior to this) reach out to me about applying for an open position with them. I get to work from home and set my own hours, and this week I’m in training. I really love it so far and am beyond thankful for this opportunity. If you don’t know about them, are a family with a wounded veteran, or have been looking for a way to help out wounded veterans, I’d encourage you to take a look at their site and the many, many programs and opportunities they have.

We don’t have a closing date on our home yet, but it’s sooooo close to being done. I can’t wait to show you all pictures. Every time we drive by I say a little prayer that it works out this time.

Bella’s in soccer and yesterday we took off about 7 inches of tangled, so many tears over brushing hair and she looks so adorable.

Char’s first birthday is in just a few weeks. I can’t tell you how fast this year has gone. I know everyone says that, but I look at her all the time and think about how quick she flew through a whole year. She has such a fun personality, very strong-willed already.

I have absolutely no idea where she gets that from. Sam and I are such passive people.

I have one more hour of sitter time so I’m off to stalk FB and make some calls.

    Hi Diana,

You should reach out to Diana WILLIAMS. She is a popular news anchor on ABC7 New York City. Her son, Nat was in a really bad motorcycle accident last year. From what I read he was lucky to have survived it. He suffers from TBI. I started following her Facebook page recently and she seems like a really nice person, just like you. I am sorry that I have never commented before but I have been reading your blog for years. I guess this was the right time. I feel like I “know” you. Your faith inspires me. You, Sam and Bella are resilient beyond belief. I only wish and pray for the best for you and your family. Numbers 6:24-26
