Day in the life of a toddler

August 14, 2011

I wrote some of this out for my mom when I was at BlogHer, but as I came across it today I thought, “One day soon, this will all be different and I’ll never remember what it was really like right now.” So I decided to add to it and then post it, for me to look back on. I have another one I did when Bella was much smaller. Sam and I read it the other night, laughing and saying, “Oh that’s right!”

Please to enjoy the day in the life of a toddler (and her mother):

Bella has breakfast when she wakes up. Eggs with quinoa/waffle with fruit/cereal with berries. Milk for breakfast. Please turn off the fan in her room. The overhead one should stay on. She will ask for all the fans in the house to be on (and moving) before anything else happens.

Play and read in her room/dance to music. She likes to have the music on and play with the ceiling fan strings while you hold her. No idea why. You can also take her for a walk or head to the park.

Snack at around 9:30/10. Errands/Gymboree/art or Baby Signing Time.

Playing with her Ark

Lunch at 11:30. Frozen veggies can be added to pasta. Water for lunch. Nap right after lunch till 1/2pm. If she doesnโ€™t go to sleep, check her diaper for a poop. Do laundry/clean rooms/vacuum/clean kitchen.

Snack after she wakes up. Pool/get mail/play/craft/start dinner. See calendar for meal and pull out anything for tomorrow from freezer.

Dinner around 5/5:30. Water for dinner. Clean up kitchen/sweep/mop if needed. Bath at 6:30. Read books. Bed at 7. The fan gets turned on (2 clicks over). Shades drawn and window cracked. She likes her water bottle in bed with her. Puppy and paci both go in the bed.

Wednesday – Gymboree open play is at 3:30-5:30

Thursday – Gymboree at 10:15. Trash out after 7pm (both containers but spaced apart)

Friday – Trash in. Wash cloth diapers.

Line drying

Washing diapers:

Put diapers and liner in wash. Turn to soak, heavy, and cold.

After cycle, turn to whitest whites, heavy and sanitize.

Put all uncovered diapers/fleece liners in dryer. All covers/liner can be hung on line to dry.

Nighttime diaper:

Diaper with two liners. Wool cover. Check sheets as she might wet through. She likes to pick her own nightclothes and may have a small meltdown if you choose the wrong one. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Bella can reach the counter.
  • Please keep her away from the fans and turn off the one in her room when she wakes up. She is pretty good about this and will sign โ€œhurtโ€ if she gets near them.
  • She will tell you if she has a poop and turn around.
  • She will let you know if she has a sticker in her foot.
  • Shoes have to be worn outside because of stickers. Water shoes are the blue ones.

Not so identifiable sayings:

Graffiti practice
  • Dodo – Bird
  • Boobies – Blueberries/Grapes
  • Nilkie- milk
  • Pee – please
  • Da – Dog
  • Kiki – cat
  • Sa – Fan

She makes the noise for almost all other animals.

She also signs all of these and more.

And that is a typical day of ours. Give or take a few tantrums.

I love how important fans are right now! I wonder what will be important 6 months from now? Next year? ๐Ÿ™‚

What a great blog post idea! I’m totally going to borrow this! Funny how kids get so used to a routine.

This is a fabulous idea! I wish I had thought of it when my little ones were super little, but I can still do it now!

I am going to tweet this for sure!
