Salted White Chocolate Reece’s Pieces Popcorn

November 5, 2014

First, let me introduce myself! I’m Carrie. I have two kids, I live in Dallas, and I blog. I blog about parenting and simple solutions for busy moms (and dads!). Even though I share a lot of food recipes, I have to be honest – I’m no expert in the kitchen, Like, AT ALL. So if you see a recipe on my site, you’ll know that it’s actually easy to make (I promise!).

And this popcorn? It was no exception.

White Chocolate Popcorn

This was inspired by my son. My brother and his family are in town this week, and Jack (my oldest, who is five), had asked if we could please make some “fancy popcorn” and watch a Halloween movie when his cousins came to visit.

“Umm, sure!” I said, thinking that the fanciest my popcorn has ever been was the time I sprinkled a little parmesan cheese on top (super good, by the way). How hard could fancy popcorn be though, right? So I thought about it for a couple of days, wanting it to be *extra* fancy but still fall within my realm of kitchen skills, and I decided that there was only one thing to do.

Use lots of chocolate.

It was a good call. This popcorn is easy to make, and also sort of addicting (sort of = completely and totally). It’s perfect for holiday parties, movie night, and, umm, eating by the handful every time you walk by the popcorn bowl. It’s really good for that, actually.

Reese's Pieces Popcorn

Here’s what you need to make this Salted White Chocolate Reese’s Pieces Popcorn:

  • Popcorn (I used two bags of microwave popcorn with extra butter, because…extra butter)
  • White chocolate, melted (I used an entire bag of white chocolate chips, but you could easily use less and this would still taste amazing)
  • Reese’s Pieces (I used about half of a large bag, found in the candy aisle)
  • Sea Salt (I like it coarse for this)

Here’s how you make it:

Pop your popcorn. Use a very large bowl (I atually used two bowls because I didn’t have one big enough to use for mixing). Melt your chocolate (I used the microwave, checking and stirring it every 45 seconds or so until it was melted enough to use). I scooped some melted chocolate into the bowl, poured popcorn over it, scooped out more melted chocolate, and dumped it onto the popcorn. Then I stirred it all up with a giant mixing spoon (gently!) until the popcorn was covered in chocolate.

Sprinkle with salt (to taste) and stir. I did this a couple of times to make sure it all got salted. Sprinkle the Reese’s Pieces over the popcorn, mixing and sprinkling until the candy is mixed evenly throughout the popcorn.

Leave the popcorn out at room temperature for the chocolate to harden (or, stick it in the fridge for a few minutes – but don’t leave it too long as the moisture in the fridge can mess up the popcorn). Once the chocolate returns to its normal state, you’ll have the tastiest popcorn EVAH.

Hopefully you have more self-control than I do, but if not, that’s okay. It’s the holidays. I am pretty sure you’re required to eat popcorn covered in chocolate *at least* once. 😉

Oh, and one more thing – ENJOY!
